We’re all about getting our steps in—and getting to hit our 10K goal in a charming downtown is a bonus. We love our walkable main streets, and now Assisted Living Magazine has given them a shout out. Two of our favorite downtowns just made the list of the 100 Best Main Streets in the U.S. to Walk, based on a survey of more than 3,000 people, and both sit along the water, so a short walk can feel like a little getaway.

Broad Street in Red Bank landed at No. 29 on the list, thanks to its colorful planters, sidewalk displays, and paths along the Navesink River that make a walk both relaxing and picturesque.

From Monmouth Street to Front Street to West Broad Street, you’ll head past ultra-luxe clothing store Garmany, the campus for Red Bank Catholic High School, the comic-lovers’ fave Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, and the new Saffron Indian restaurant. The Count Basie Center for the Arts is part of the National Register of Historic Places, and a hot spot for concerts. The Molly Pitcher Inn is a waterfront boutique hotel that dates back to 1928.

Red Bank is known for its myriad activities during the year, from street fairs AND 5Ks to line dancing and tango lessons to kids’ activities on the BroadWalk.

No. 61 on the list, Main Street in Lambertville, goes through town and along the Delaware River. Every few steps, you’ll come across an antique shop to hunt for treasures.

A key path is the footbridge to Pennsylvania, with people walking back and forth and taking selfies that show they’re on the border of NJ and PA; or you can hike along the 60-mile towpath of the D&R Canal for more picturesque views.

Tour the James Wilson Marshall House, the childhood home of a member of the Gold Rush in California; or the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum, which preserves the agricultural heritage of Hunterdon County from the 18th to 20th centuries.
