New Jersey has some of the country’s most charming downtowns, and a recent study named three Main Street areas among the most pristine streets in America.
Freshly Ground Media released a study that used information from Waste Removal USA to create a list of the most quaint streets that also happen to be spotless and pristine, as named by 3,000 travelers from around the country. The survey aimed to highlight hidden gems where charm and cleanliness go hand in hand.
New Jersey has three of the cleanest, most pristine streets in America. And they happen to be the same three towns that landed on a list of America’s Most Charming Main Streets, according to Mixbook, in the spring.
The first NJ town named, Cape May, placed 15th on the national list because of Washington Street. Cape May is known for its Victorian charm, and the main shopping district has quaint shops, historic Congress Hall nearby and is a popular Jersey Shore destination. The popular street has dozens of shops and restaurants, and there’s also natural beauty nearby at the beaches, Cape May Point State Park, the lighthouse, and areas preserved by The Nature Conservancy.
The second NJ town on the list is Lambertville, whose Bridge Street area rivals New Hope, PA, across the bridge. Our stateside shopping area includes the Lambertville Station Restaurant & Inn along the Delaware River, plus shops, galleries and a focus on the environment (have you ever been to Shad Fest to celebrate the shad fish?). Bridge Street is No. 43 on the national list.
Located in a traditional downtown setting, No. 70 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair has all the advantages of being in a city while having a small-town feel. There are tons of shops and restaurants lining the streets, plus the Montclair Art Museum and Watchung Mountains that draw in visitors.
