Six Flags Great Adventure is ramping up for a big late summer and fall season.

First off, the DC Heroes & Villains Fest kicks off this weekend. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during August (plus Labor Day), you can watch 15 scripted performances that take place over five hours. There will be fight scenes, parades, dance parties, street theater, live concerts, interactive games, and a massive stunt-driven finale.

Next up will be Fright Fest on select nights from September 12 to November 2; and Oktoberfest and Kids Boo Fest on weekends from September 13 to November 2. Halloween will be in full swing with monsters, zombies and ghouls wandering throughout the park and at certain themed attractions. Details will be announced soon.

For the first time in 9 years, Holiday in the Park is canceled so that the park can focus on its main season.
“After much research and planning, we’ve made a strategic decision to focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences during our core operating season — spring through fall. This shift allows us to concentrate our efforts and resources during the time when the majority of our guests visit Great Adventure, and weather conditions can more consistently support our goal to deliver an enjoyable and memorable visit for all. This means that Holiday in the Park will not return,” Ryan Eldredge, the regional manager for Public Relations for Six Flags Great Adventure Resort ant Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, tells New Jersey Family.

The park is attracting roller coaster enthusiasts who want to try THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity, North America’s first super boomerang coaster, and only the second in the world, which debuted at GA this spring. The trains speed forward and backward at nearly 60 miles per hour through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll! In a “flash,” it changes direction and speeds off again, backwards.

And of course there’s luxury glamping at the Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa inside the Wild Safari, plus the off-road adventure through the animal park. That’s in addition to Hurricane Harbor.

With all these attractions and plans, the hope is that visits to the park increase, since this summer has seen a decrease in foot traffic due to extreme heat and rain, ride closures and the cost of tickets. Just ask members of the Great Adventure Connoisseurs Facebook group, who constantly post comments about the goings-on in the park.
To help drive traffic, and to thank every 2025 season pass holder, each pass holder will receive one Bring-a-Friend ticket for use this fall.
The debut of a new roller coaster to replace the demolished Kingda Ka, Twister and Parachutes was set for 2026, but that timeframe has been pushed back although construction is in fact underway.
“Behind the scenes, we have been working on an exciting multi-year plan for Great Adventure. As we continue to evaluate our construction projects, we’ve realized that the world-class size and scope of this project means that it will take a bit longer to complete than originally anticipated,” Eldredge told New Jersey Family. “To ensure the ride meets our high standards of innovation, thrills and safety that guests expect and deserve, and that we’re able to debut it in the spring so our guests can enjoy it all season, we have revised the timeline beyond 2026. We appreciate the continued support and patience of our guests, partners, and team members.”
And in other news, last year Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair, the operators of Dorney Park, and as part of the merger the CEO/president will step down by the end of the year. Richard A. Zimmerman will remain director of the Six Flags Board of Directors, but the implications of the move or who his replacement will be are unknown at this time.
Six Flags Great Adventure is located at 1 Six Flags Blvd. in Jackson Twp. Fright Fest will take place on select dates through November 2, with the park itself open on select dates through November 30.
