Wawa is our go-to for Free Coffee Days, a quick fill-up of the gas tank and their oh-so-soft pretzels. It seems like there is a convenience store and/or gas station everywhere we turn – and that says a lot, considering the chain was founded in Pennsylvania.
But there’s one state that beats New Jersey’s record for the most Wawas. Of the 1,113 locations spread out among 569 cities in 10 states, the Garden State is home to 293. But Florida just surpassed us, with 299 stores, according to a study from ScrapeHero.
It must be a nice taste of home for snowbirds. There is a store for every 71,833 people living in Florida, compared to one store for every 30,314 New Jersey residents. Pennsylvania comes in third, with 262 stores, or one for every 48,863 people.
And, one New Jersey town has the 7th highest number of Wawa stores. Toms River has 9 Wawas in its 53 square miles housing about 95,000 residents – that means there is a spot for every 10,000 people!
Plus, Wilwood has a cool retro location. On one side of Rio Grande Avenue is an old-school Sinclair gas station with its iconic dinosaur logo (one of only about a dozen in NJ); and on the right, a very Jetson-esque Wawa sign.
