This Beach in NJ is Ranked No. 1 For Labor Day BBQs

The park has close to ten miles of sandy beach and lots of areas for a picnic.

With miles of white sandy beaches in this state park that’s home to local wildlife, Island Beach State Park in Manahawkin is a Garden State treasure. Locals in the area agree. According to a poll by Family Destinations Guide, Island Beach State Park was voted by the people who live here as their top pick for a BBQ or picnic on Labor Day weekend. They polled 3,000 families in each state to find out which location is the best for a holiday weekend cookout.

Island Beach State Park has a great shoreline, rolling dunes of sand and quiet beaches. There are designated picnic areas in the park, where you can relax after swimming, bird watching and playing in the sand.

Cheesequake State Park in Old Bridge/Matawan came in at No. 2, followed by Sandy Hook National Recreation Area in Highlands at No. 3. Cheesequake also has designated picnic areas along the coastline, plus trails throughout the park that let you appreciate nature in all its glory. Sandy Hook is known for its lighthouse, dog-friendly areas, and large, clear beachfronts.
