Linwood City

New Jersey's Best Towns For Families 2017 Atlantic County

Population: 7,109
Average Home Price: $233,388

At just 4.242 miles this town offers the best of both worlds: close proximity to the beach and the touristy hub of Atlantic City without being right smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

Kids here also get a top-notch education. Students get the resources of a larger district once they head to Mainland Regional, the high school that serves Linwood along with some of its neighbors.

Another perk? This tiny town edges up to Somers Point, a vacation haven for beach-goers during the warmer months. It’s also only an 11-minute drive from the Ocean City boardwalk, which is clad with an old school amusement park and great fishing spots. And if you’re looking to stay in town, head to the All Wars Memorial Park or smell the roses (literally) at the Linwood Arboretum.

There’s also plenty to do in Atlantic City, which is only a 25-minute drive away. Head to the boardwalk for lunch (what kid doesn’t love the Rainforest Cafe?) on the water before hitting Ripley’s Believe It or Not or taking a few spins on the coasters at the Steel Pier before heading back to some peace and quiet. —Murphy Moroney
