Adventure Aquarium is known for SCUBA Santa, mesmerizing mermaids and the longest Shark Tunnel in New Jersey – but it’s outdone itself, adding a new 2,000-square-foot exhibit that is the biggest expansion in 10 years.
Â
Kaleidoscope Cove will feature more than 100 species of sea creatures and fish, including a dozen that have never lived before at Adventure Aquarium – like flashlight fish, cuttlefish, poison dart frogs, purple-striped jellyfish, clownfish and hippo tangs.
The new space is all about color, based on the bioluminescence of the ocean. It uses the building’s location on the waterfront to bring in natural sunlight (plus custom lighting) that literally creates a kaleidoscope of color.
There’s a ton of educational exhibits here, but kids will care more about the cool fish than the science. There’s a glowing jellyfish exhibit, a touch experience, an interactive light wall, a glowing grotto, digital animal IDs, and a digital sand station. At the Draw Alive mural, they can sketch their own underwater animals and watch as their drawings become animated and swim across the screen in real time.
There will also be a soundtrack that complements the lighting elements, plus modular furniture where you can relax and take in all the sights.
Kaleidoscope Cove opens on June 28 at Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Dr., Camden. For ticket and membership information, visit AdventureAquarium.com.
