Nearly one in 10 pregnant women in the U.S. is diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and Yale scientists say the children of these moms are nearly six times more likely to develop diabetes or prediabetes than children who are not exposed. Experts recommend children born to mothers with gestational diabetes begin routine screening for the disease in adolescence.
