Architectural Digest just did a study of the top winter wonderland destinations in the country, and a popular ski area in North Jersey made the list.
Architectural Digest used data from Yelp, Airbnb and other platforms to rank the top winter wonderland destinations across six wintry categories. Vernon Twp. ranks 21st among all cities: 3rd for winter activities, 12th for luxury short-term lodging, 71st for scenic value, and 73rd for its Après-ski scene. You don’t need to hop on a plane to Colorado to experience some of the best mountain sports in the country.
Vernon is home to Mountain Creek Resort, which has skiing, snow tubing and the Alpine Mountain Coaster. In the warmer weather there is a bike park, the TreEscapes Ropes Course, a water park, zip line tours and golfing, so plan to visit again. There is lodging on-site at The Appalachian, or you can book a stay at The Minerals Hotel or Grand Cascades Lodge, which are part of Crystal Springs Resort and are just miles from the slopes.
You can hike the “Stairway to Heaven” trail, which is very steep and 2.6 miles roundtrip, so make sure you are up for the journey. The panoramic view from the top of Pinwheel’s Vista is unmatched.
Heaven Hill Farm is great in the spring and fall, but you can still pick up holiday goodies from the farm market and bakery, or get some poinsettias to decorate your home from the garden center.
