It’s not summer in New Jersey without a trip to the boards and one of our favorite boardwalks was named the go-to place in the country last summer. TimeOut magazine’s list of the 15 best boardwalks in the country placed Atlantic City in the top spot! We are sharing as we count down the days until summer arrives again!

Aside from the casinos and resorts, the boardwalk has lots to do for families. It’s the world’s oldest and longest, meaning just walking along the boards can be a trip in itself. Take a walk, rent a bike, try a rolling chair or join a 5K along the boardwalk.

Along the way, you’ll pass Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, which hosts concerts, comedy shows and other performances; or pay tribute at the New Jersey Korean War Memorial. There are beach bars on one side and hotel restaurants on the other so you can eat dinner with an ocean view.

There is mini golf; go-karts and paintball; arcades; and the iconic Steel Pier with its carousel, bumper cars, a slingshot and an observation wheel.

Popular parades along the boardwalk include the St. Patrick’s Day or Winter Wonderland parades. AC is also a popular spot for free outdoor concerts.

For shopping, stop at Playground Pier (which used to be The Pier Shops at Ceasars); and for kids’ entertainment, spend a few hours at Lucky Snake Arcade or Island Waterpark down at Showboat Resort.
