50 years ago, Bruce Springsteen wrote the iconic “Born to Run” album while living in West End in Long Branch. To celebrate the album’s anniversary on August 25, The Long Branch Arts & Cultural Center is hosting a new exhibit dedicated to the music icon.

Springsteen in Long Branch: An exhibition telling the story of Born to Run includes rarely-seen posters, photos and album promo materials. There is an entire section dedicated to West End from back in the 1970s, including Springsteen’s impact on the area and music in general. Special items include Bruce’s green drum set from his early band, Earth; and a one-of-a-kind replica of the guitar featured on the “Born to Run” album cover. You’ll see him surfing along the Jersey Shore, hanging at The Steel Mill, playing with the E Street Band, and highlighting local culture.
Throughout the length of the exhibit, special events will be planned, like a Springsteen open mic night, a special presentation on his years in Long Branch, and a storytelling event.

There’s a timeless element, too, where you’ll be given a vintage-style Long Branch postcard so you can share your own personal memory or reflection. When the exhibition gets ready to close, the postcards will be added to the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music, which is set to open at Monmouth University in 2026.

Born to Run: Springsteen in Long Branch will be on exhibit at the Long Branch Arts & Cultural Center, 577 Broadway, Long Branch, starting August 18, with an opening reception from 4-8 pm on August 19. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is free.
