A recent Gallup poll shows only 47 percent of Americans are “very satisfied” with the way their life is going, but people in New Jersey report being the third happiest in the country. According to a study by WalletHub, 30 key indicators of overall happiness, such as depression rate, the share of adults feeling productive, income growth and unemployment rate, have ranked the Garden State pretty high up.

New Jersey garnered a score of 62.46, just behind Maryland with 64.67 and Hawaii with 68.71. The study shows NJ has the lowest share of people reporting traumatic events during their childhood, and the second-highest life satisfaction rate. The state also has the second-lowest depression rate and the second-highest share of people who have supportive relationships and love in their lives. All these factors come together to create conditions for good mental health.

And when it comes to finances, New Jersey has the third-highest share of households earning over $75,000 per year. It also has the sixth-lowest food insecurity rate.
