The boardwalks, malls, mountains and top-notch schools (the taxes not so much) are among the list of things that make New Jerseyans happy. There’s now something new to add to this list, according to a recent Mixbook survey, and that’s how happy families tend to be in the Garden State.
Mixbook surveyed 1,969 Americans, and New Jersey snagged the No. 10 spot for happiest families. The survey reports a happiness score of 92.4 for the state, and a whopping 79 percent of residents claim that their family is happier than most on a level of 7 out of 10 or higher. A solid 60 percent of respondents say they are on good terms with their family. And perhaps one of the most surprising stats is that only 25 percent of New Jerseyans report never seriously arguing with their family members.
What is it about New Jersey that could contribute to such high levels of family bliss?
For starters, three words: the Jersey Shore. The sound of ocean waves is all we need to hear to boost our mood not to mention the boardwalks (and the boardwalk fries), rollercoasters and all the traditions of summers well spent down the shore. The food in NJ is among the best. From diners serving up breakfast all day (hello bacon, egg and cheese) to downtown foodie havens like Hoboken, Red Bank and Princeton, New Jersey is a foodie’s paradise.
Sandwiched between NYC and Philly, New Jerseyans are close to all the best of big city offerings. But we don’t need to leave NJ to take in its theme parks, museums, water parks, pro sports, charming downtowns and more. The Top 10 States With the Happiest Families in the U.S., according to Mixbook, are:
- Tennesse
- Maryland
- Idaho
- Kentucky
- California
- Utah
- Wisconsin
- New Mexico
- Maine
- New Jersey
