Morristown landed at No. 9 on Fortune’s list of the nation’s top 50 Best Places to Live for Families because it’s a town where multigenerational families can access highly-rated schools, hospitals, resources for older adults and a strong sense of community. Morristown is also popular thanks to its proximity to NYC, but also for gems like Morristown National Historical Park, the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and the Ford Mansion and Museum (where General George Washington lived for a time).
The area that was vital during the Revolutionary War (Washington and his troops spent the winter of 1779–80 in Morristown) and today has more than 800 corporate headquarters in aerospace, financial services, insurance, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. It also has Northwest NJ’s only regional trauma center (Morristown Medical Center), the acclaimed Mayo Performing Arts Center. and the beautiful Macculloch Hall Historical Museum & Gardens.
Annual events include the Morristown Festival of Books with its KidFest, the Jazz & Blues music festival, and plenty of activities downtown at Christmastime.
To select the Best Places to Live for Families, Fortune evaluated over 2,000 cities, towns, suburbs, exurbs, villages and townships, each with approximately 20,000 residents or more, across all 50 states in the U.S. There were 200 categories considered in education, general wellness, financial health, livability and resources for aging adults. To come up with its ranking, Fortune evaluated information from dozens of private- and public-sector data firms and government entities.
