New Jersey Has One of the Best School Systems in the U.S., According to New Report

The Garden State ranked high for digital learning and test scores

The top-notch education system in New Jersey has always been a point of pride for us here in the Garden State. In 2024, NJ is ranked fourth on a list of the Best & Worst School Systems, according to the personal finance website WalletHub.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 key measures of quality and safety. The data set ranges from student-teacher ratio and dropout rate to median standardized test scores. The study accounts for performance, funding, safety, class size and instructor credentials.

New Jersey ranked high in the following categories:
1st for Existence of Digital Learning Plan
2nd for Reading Test Scores
4th for Quality and Safety of Schools
5th for Median ACT Score
6th for Math Test Scores
7th for Pupil-Teacher Ratio

With the scale ranking 1 as highest and 25 as average, New Jersey also ranked:
16th for Percentage of Threatened/Injured High School Students
21st for Bullying Incidence Rate
28th for Median SAT Score

The top 10 school systems in the U.S. for 2024:
1. Massachusetts
2. Connecticut
3. Maryland
4. New Jersey
5. Wisconsin
6. New Hampshire
7. Nebraska
8. New York
9. Virginia
10. North Dakota
