Disney World’s Star Wars Hotel To Close in September

Galactic Starcruiser has struggled to fill reservations for its 100 rooms

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World this summer, now’s the time to book a room at the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel since it will be closing in the fall.

“The final voyage for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take place September 28-30, 2023. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” Disney said in a statement. “This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

The movie-themed hotel opened March 1, 2022. It was designed as a two-day land cruise where you stay in themed cabins and have unique experiences where you’re acting out your Star Wars adventure through lots of live-action role playing.

You get food on the ship, quick service at Galaxy’s Edge, Lightning Lane access to Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run, admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, an exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Magic Band, and an exclusive concierge assistance to help reserve activities on earth.

But the hotel has been struggling for a while. In January, the hotel hasn’t been able to fully occupy all 100 rooms. Some guests complained the cabins are small and windowless, and there is no swimming pool or fitness center.

According to Disney, sample standard cabin rates are $1,209 per person per night, with two guest per cabin, or $4,809 total. The cost for two adults and one child is $889 per guest per night, or $5,299 total. If you have three adults and one child, the cost is $749 per person per night, or $5,999 total. These rates are listed for departure on most weeknights from Aug. 21 to Sept. 14.

If you had a room booked on or after Sept. 30, a company representative will contact families to discuss options to modify their stay. In order to do so, no new bookings will be made until after May 26.
