Where to Pick Your Own Pumpkins in New Jersey

Whether you want to paint or carve a giant gourd, these farms have an extensive selection of u-pick pumpkins

It’s fall in New Jersey, which means it’s time to head to a local pumpkin patch with the kids. Get out your pumpkin pie recipes and carving tools and visit one of these farms for PYO pumpkins and apples, hayrides, corn mazes, a chance to see farm animals and more. Lots of farms hold festivals to celebrate the harvest season so be sure to check those dates ahead of time.

Atlantic County

R & J Farm

Take a hayride out to the pumpkin patch and find the perfect pumpkin for every family member. Their corn maze, jumping pad and farm stand are sure to keep your family entertained. Opening day is September 20.

Bergen County

A day on the farm includes a scenic hayride pulled by a tractor, pumpkin picking, a barnyard petting zoo, flower picking, and lots of photo ops.

Demarest Farms

At Demarest Farms you can pick your own pumpkins and apples. Your ticket includes free parking, entrance to the pumpkin patch, petting zoo, playground and hayrides. Come back starting September 27 for the Halloween Light Show.

Pumpkin hayrides are available in October. They include a ride to the pumpkin patch, picking a small pumpkin, a drink of apple cider and an apple cider donut. It is a family-friendly ride with many fun, silly and scary (but not too scary) things along the path. There are also apple hayrides, a corn maze and scarecrow making on select dates.

Hunterdon County

Everitt Farms

You can get to Pumpkin Junction at Everitt Farms two different ways – either park onsite, or take the scenic, round-trip train ride along Black River & Western Railroad. There is a corn maze, a 6-acre pumpkin patch, hayrides, kids’ activities, music, games, a Halloween pet parade (October 18 and 29), and First Responder Appreciation Weekend (October 25-26).

There is plenty of pick-your-own produce to choose from, including apples right now. In October, you can pick your pumpkins at the peak of the season, and grab apple cider donuts that are fresh daily. 

Schaefer Farms

Schaefer Farms has an endless supply of harvest and Halloween-themed activities. By Day events include hayrides, pumpkin picking, mazes and feeding farm animals. By Night, Farm of Horrors events are much spookier: The Hayride of Horror, the Trail of Terror, the Massacre Maize, and the Carnival Chaos. 

Mercer County

This year’s corn maze has a virtual experience, using the app on your phone to find eight hidden animal signs. There’s a pumpkin patch to choose pumpkins and squash. You can take a hayride to the patch, or join a separate un-haunted hayride. Note: this is the same location as the nighttime Field of Terror attraction.

You can’t pick apples on site, but you can get a cup of fresh apple cider. There are hayrides on the weekends, plus special haunted hayrides at night. Take a shot at winning a 100-pound pumpkin.
