When Six Flags Great Adventure reopens for the 2026 season, all eyes will be on what’s coming next: a new roller coaster already in the works for 2027.
Although Six Flags is being secretive about the project – in a good way – it’s the start of an expansion project inside the theme park.
El Toro is also getting upgrades, with the replacement of sections of new track being installed on the 20-year-old coaster so it’s a smoother and more consistent ride.
More changes have been announced as well. When you first enter the park, you’ll see a new, large main stage behind the park’s iconic fountain, which will serve as a central space for performances, special programs and lots of live entertainment – more of those details will be announced soon, too.
Best of the West will turn into a smokehouse, with new BBQ flavors; while Main Street Pub is being redesigned to look more like a classic pub with walk-up quick service and a new menu.
As always, the Wild Safari is included with your park ticket – but for the first time ever, if you’re inside the park and your wild side strikes, you can board the off-road vehicle near The Runaway Mine Train or Medusa. If you’re not spending the day at the park, you can still jump on the truck at the base camp on your way to the parking lot, where there is a playground, small animal exhibit and snacks.
FYI, Six Flags’ Wild Safari has been nominated for Best Safari Park in the USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for 2026. Editors and a panel of six experts chose the main list, but the winners will be chosen by the public. You can vote once a day now through March 9, and the winners will be announced on March 18. The Wild Safari was ranked 10th out of 20 as of press time.
And maybe the best part for your kids? There will be a major Wi-Fi enhancement, adding more than 600 new access points. That means 5G-speed internet across all three parks, with better mobile app performance, in-park communication and content sharing as part of the experience.
Six Flags Great Adventure Resort in Jackson Twp. opens for the 2026 season on Saturday, March 28. The theme park will be open from 11 am to 7 pm, while safari hours are 10 am to 4 pm. Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa, a luxury glamping experience located in the middle of the safari, starts booking dates on April 3. Hurricane Harbor water park will open on May 23.
