Three New Jersey companies earned spots on the 2025 Fortune Best Workplaces for Parents™ list. The list highlights companies that encourage work–life balance for parents and is based on confidential survey responses from employees with parenting responsibilities.
Two New Jersey biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies made the list: Insmed in Bridgewater and Merck in Rahway. Crum & Forster, a financial services and insurance company based in Morristown, also made the list.
The findings come at a time when the average parent spends 40 percent of their household income on childcare, and more women are leaving the workforce due to childcare costs and a lack of workplace flexibility, according to KPMG.
Building the Best Workplace for Parents List
In its survey of employees with parenting responsibilities at large, medium and small companies, Great Place To Work uses a confidential questionnaire that dives into culture, trust, fairness, leadership, well-being, and belonging. To build the Best Workplace for Parents list, Great Place To Work analyzes feedback from employees with parenting responsibilities and compares it to the experiences of their peers. The analysis also looks at how parents’ experiences differ by role, tenure, demographic group, and employment status (such as full-time vs part-time).
Companies also submit information about their policies and benefits, including parental leave, adoption support, childcare, dependent health care, and flexibility. This year’s list reflects responses from 606,000 U.S. employees with parenting responsibilities.
According to the survey results of employees at the Best Workplaces, 94 percent of parents say they can take time off when needed, compared to 75 percent at a typical workplace. And 89 percent of parents are encouraged to achieve a work–life balance, compared to 67 percent at a typical workplace.
The data shows that that workplace flexibility and work life balance support drives productivity among its employees. Survey results show that nearly 50 percent more parents at the Best Workplaces (92 percent) go above and beyond at work compared to typical workplaces (62 percent). On top of that, 77 percent more parents at the Best Workplaces feel they have more opportunities for meaningful innovation, compared with typical workplaces.
