Halloween is almost here and some towns in New Jersey are moving their trick-or-treating to tonight (October 30) while others are placing restrictions on age and time.
Pennsauken, in Camden County, has both an 8 pm curfew on October 31, as well as an age limit of 14 years old for trick-or-treaters visiting homes. Cherry Hill encourages trick-or-treating from 3 to 7 pm.
Upper Deerfield Township, in Cumberland County, lets kids up to age 12 trick-or-treat in their neighborhoods.
Rumson, in Monmouth County, has an 8 pm curfew on October 30 and 31, and anyone under 18 who’s not with an adult can’t be out past 6 pm on Mischief Night, or past 8 pm on Halloween. Wall Twp. police will enforce a curfew of 9 pm October 29-31. Long Branch’s policy is October 29-31 and applies to kids under 17 being home by 8 pm. Shrewsbury doesn’t want kids out after 6 pm on October 30, or 8 pm on October 31. Marlboro has a curfew of 10 pm on Halloween night.
Long Valley, in Morris County, doesn’t want kids out from 10 pm to 6 am any day this week (from Monday to Friday). Trick-or-treating is allowed on Halloween from 2-9 pm.
Sparta Twp., in Sussex County, requires anyone under age 18 to be home by 9 pm on October 30 and 31. The Sparta Police Department is working with the Lake Mohawk County Club to assist with the Valley View Trail neighborhoods and roads known to attract trick-or-treaters. On October 31, from 5 to 9 pm, Valley View Trail will be closed to all vehicles; and Valley View Trail intersections at Alpine Trail, Partridge Lane and Summit Road will be closed.
Check with your township for its specific regulations on Halloween fun. Most towns make exceptions for teens who are with an adult, or who are coming home from work.
