The Barbie Movie Is In Theaters! Here’s How to Celebrate in New Jersey

The pink-themed parties continue all summer

BUCKET LISTERS / The Malibu Barbie Cafe

The new Barbie movie hits theaters on July 21 and bakeries, restaurants, movie theaters and more are getting their pink on with Barbie-themed specials! Here’s where to get your Barbie fix ahead of the movie.

Dress up like a Barbie. Barbie herself will host a Barbie Play Date at Glitter & Glam at Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City on July 30, and then a Barbie Dress Up Party on August 5. Your kid will get a mani, Barbie-inspired hairstyle, sparkly makeup and Barbie tattoos.

Introduce your kids to Barbie. Westfield Garden State Plaza will hold The Ultimate Pink Party on July 22, where you can meet Barbie and Ken look-alikes. Dress up in your favorite Barbie and Ken clothing and bring your favorite dolls for a photo op with America’s favorite retro couple. Ce La Vi in Red Bank will hold a specially-themed Kids Night on July 27. From either 4:30-5:30 pm or 6-7 pm there will be a kids menu along with the regular menu. And they’ll of course get to meet Barbie, too.

Head to a Barbie party sans kids. Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City will hold a Barbiecore Party on July 19 at Nolan’s Bar and Lounge. Come for specialty cocktails, photos, live music by DJ Freezie and a special drag performance by Crystal Envy and Vanessa Sky. Liberty Science Center hosts LSC: After Dark twice a month for the 21+ crowd, and August 17 will be dedicated to a Malibu Beach Party. Bring your gal pals for a Hot Girl Summer Laser Show, Barbiecore costume contest and specialty foods and drinks. Bally’s Atlantic City will hold a “cute and sassy dance party” Barbie Dream Party on Sept. 23 at The Yard; you can expect lots of “bubblegum pop” from Riot Nerd and JadeRavenz. On August 19, Bar A in Belmar will welcome Chelli, Bacardi Ardi, DJ Mike Nice and DJ Proud for its Barbie Theme Party, which will also include a Barbie look-alike contest.

THE SHANNON ROSE

And try a Barbie-inspired drink. 618 Restaurant in Freehold has its Barbie World cocktail, made with Grey Goose vodka, Passoa Passionfruit, pineapple and lemon; grab some friends because it serves six people! The Shannon Rose Irish Pubs in Clifton and Ramsey have a pink cocktail, as well as a pink mocktail for kids that has edible glitter.

Get yourself a sweet treat. Papa Ganache is serving up Barbie pink vegan donuts, cakes, cake pops, chipwiches, cookies and pastries in Matawan, Manasquan and Cranford. Brownstone Pancake Factory has its Very Pink Barbie Ultimate Insane Milkshake, complete with cotton candy, donuts, pink sugar and lots of candy. The Museum of Ice Cream in New York City is known for its pink walls, decor and exhibits (they even have their own shade of pink – 1905C) so a day at the museum is the closest a Barbie fan can get to being in a real-life Dream House.

CHERRY GROVE FARM / Barbie beet cheese

Or something more savory. Cherry Grove Farm in Lawrence Twp., which makes its own selection of cheeses from milk from the cows on their farm, already sold out of its Barbie’s Beet Cheese.

Pop it pink. Regal movie theaters will sell Barbie-inspired pink popcorn at select theaters, beginning July 19.

Roll around like it’s the ’80s. What’s old is new again, and kids love roller skating. Skate to the Barbie movie soundtrack at United Skates of America in Jackson on July 28, then test your Barbie knowledge with some trivia.

Create your own Barbie photo op. There is a life-sized Barbie box on display at Shop Anthem in Cranford. Stop by to take your picture through July 20. Happy Day Farm in Manalapan has photo ops in its fields, including a Barbie and a Ken toy box. Show off your best Barbiecore outfit at Bell Works in Holmdel, where a pop-up space behind the main atrium lets you get into a Barbie beach scene.

Get lost in Barbie’s World. Happy Day Farm has more celebrations coming up: starting Sept. 9, their fall festival weekends will include a 10-acre corn maze designed for all Barbie fans.

Live out your Barbie Dreamhouse dreams. Barbie’s Dreamhouse Living Tour is rolling through NJ later this year: Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus on Sept. 30, Menlo Park Mall in Edison on Oct. 7 and the Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill on Oct. 14. Super fans can follow the bus to the Shops at Skyview Center in Flushing, NY, on Sept. 16; and the Staten Island Mall in Staten Island, NY, on Sept. 23.

Bring a little friend. Build-A-Bear Workshop, which is located at several malls in New Jersey, has a new line of Barbie bears. You can accessorize the stuffed animals with Barbie- and Ken-like outfits.

Have lunch with Malibu Barbie. NYC introduced a Barbie cafe with dreamy Barbie sets, a Malibu Barbie time capsule, and a menu with items like Pacific Paradise Rainbow Pancakes and the Think Pink Margarita. It’s worth the trip into Manhattan for the photo ops alone. Reservations are available through September 15.

More party time. If you can’t get enough, throw a Barbie-themed party at home. Balloons, dinnerware, decorations and props may be on sale for Amazon Prime Day today and tomorrow. And don’t forget to check Etsy for cute finds, like mommy-and-me matching outfits.
