Whether you had a Barbie Dreamhouse or a Hot Wheels racetrack as a kid, your favorite childhood toys are about to come to life!
Mattel Adventure Park is set to open in Arizona next year. This is the only place where you can go on a Hot Wheels roller coaster, join Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends on a treasure hunt, and sip on a pink beverage on the third-story rooftop of The Barbie Beach House.
Rides and attractions planned throughout the 9-acre park include a Hot Wheels Bone Shaker-themed ride, which will be the first-ever family coaster to feature the famous hot rod’s skull design that climbs 84 feet in the air.
The double-looping Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer is for anyone in your crew who loves adrenaline-pumping fun. Hot Wheels fans go on a 65-second thrill ride over a 2,503-foot track. The coaster, which loads and unloads inside the air-conditioning, goes from 0 to 50 mph in under three seconds before blasting riders outside, taking them on two vertical loops (one of which tops out at 116 feet) and navigating a series of corkscrew and hairpin turns before making its way back into the building. This is the first coaster of its kind in Arizona.
Thomas & Friends: World of Sodor has seven family-friendly attractions and rides, including a dedicated indoor play space for little adventurers.
A full-scale Barbie Beach House lets Barbie fans get stylish as they take a peek inside the Barbie Dream Closet Experience, which uses hologram technology to bring Barbie to life. It’s a mixture of state-of-the-art technology and nostalgia, with the innovative “Flying Theater,” a Barbie Dream Closet experience that brings Barbie to life using hologram technology, and a Barbie Beach Rooftop perfect for kicking back with a pink drink.
Masters of the Universe fans can fight for Eternia in a massive, 4,500 square-foot laser tag arena that resembles the iconic Castle Grayskull fortress.
The mini golf experience has nine holes inspired by Magic 8 Bal, Pictionary and other Mattel games, as well as a large custom climb UNO™ structure.
The adventure park has both outdoor and indoor air-conditioned spaces. Mattel Adventure Park is part of the much larger Vai Resort, the largest luxury resort in the area, which is part of Glendale, Arizona’s, sports and entertainment district. It’s described as a “cruise ship on land” so you know there will be activities for everyone.
The main focus is a $40 million stage that will be used for concerts and comedy shows. There are four hotel towers with 1,100 luxury rooms and suites, but if you book one of the 160 rooms that overlook the stage, you’ll be 100 feet away from the action as you sit on your balcony. It’s like a skybox option but with the amenities of your hotel room.
When the kids have their fill of Mattel land, you can swim in the 5-acre oasis that runs through the property. There’s also a 52,000-square-foot party island where there will be restaurants, a DJ booth and an aerial bar where you can have a cocktail 150 feet up in the air. And there’s a 70,000-square-foot shopping area, too.
Mattel Adventure Park is located at 9601 W. Cardinals Way in Glendale, Arizona, just south of State Farm Stadium at VAI Resort. It will be open 365 days as a year-round entertainment destination. The opening date is set for spring 2024, but in the meantime, you can keep an eye on the construction project through a special camera on the park’s website. The company also posted a video on Facebook about plans for the site.
