Longwood Gardens is kicking off the summer season with new garden spaces, the return of the Fireworks & Fountains Shows and performances in front of the Illuminated Fountain, plus all the gorgeous landscapes we can’t get enough of.
After a two-year hiatus, the Conservatory Overlook has been reimagined with 28 yellowwood trees and tiered vistas that overlook the Main Fountain Garden performances.
Also returning are the Fireworks & Fountains Shows with new performances, an enhanced sound system and reserved seating. The six nighttime shows feature the fountains choreographed to music by iconic artists like The Beatles, Adele and Prince while fireworks light up the sky. Tickets are required.
There are also Illuminated Fountain Performances in the Main Fountain Garden on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Some of this season’s shows are Gershwin Favorites, Get Back: The Beatles, Take Me With U: Inspired by Prince, Someone Like You: Artists Who Inspired Adele, Italian Spectacular, and Spark Your Imagination. These shows are included with admission.
Longwood’s Beer Garden features live music on Thursday through Saturday evenings featuring regional artists. The beer comes from Victory Brewing Company, with some of the beers made with ingredients grown in the gardens. You can order soups, salads and entrees from The Café or sit for full-service dining in 1906, which will introduce a new seasonal menu.
Select Festive Friday nights present themed fountain performances, food specials and live entertainment. You can climb to the top of the Chimes Tower for a breathtaking view of Longwood’s 62-bell carillon and the surrounding landscape. The first Festive Friday, “It’s A Love Story,” on May 24, celebrates the music of Taylor Swift. Other highlights include “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” on July 12 with performers from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, and a night inspired by Prince with “Party Like It’s 1999” on September 20. These themed nights are included with admission.
Part of the Festival of Fountains is the Wine & Jazz Festival on September 14, featuring a lineup of jazz performers and regional and international wines. Tickets are required.

You don’t have to come to Longwood just for the festival; any day, you can walk through the Rose Garden, take the Flower Garden Walk, head to Peirce’s Woods, go through the Idea Garden, see the Ornamental Kitchen Garden and check out the highlights of the 10th anniversary of the Meadow Garden.
There are also classes held throughout the season, including topics like Pennsylvania Native Species Day, stewardship science, rain gardens and landscaping.
The Festival of Fountains season is on view daily from May 9 through October 27 at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA. Festival of Fountains hours are 10 am to 6 pm Sunday, Monday and Wednesday; and 10 am–10 pm Thursday–Saturday, May 9 through August 28.
