There’s a new donut shop in Medford that’s upping the dessert game. Happy Place Homemade blends made-from-scratch donuts, soft serve, and coffee into one sweet spot!
Happy Place Homemade is set to open Friday with its “new nostalgia” concept, mixing scratch-made donuts and signature Happy Stacks with La Colombe coffee and soft serve.
Medford native Tyler Gerber created a 1,500-square-foot space with cute diner-style booths and an outside drive-thru. A “donut robot” makes fresh cake donuts all day, every day. Start with the original glazed or chocolate, then branch out with the Inside-Out Boston Crème, wildberry cheesecake, s’mores, banana crumb or brown butter.
There are six soft-serve machines that use local milk in classic vanilla and chocolate; plus weekly rotating flavors like cinnamon donut, banana cream and spicy hot chocolate. Non-dairy options include vanilla, pineapple whip and wildberry sorbet.
Can’t decide what to order? Go for the Happy Stack, which layers ice cream with a donut stacked in the center, with more soft serve on top, with toppings and drizzles added. Or try the Donut Dandies, which are donut-ice cream sandwiches with toppings and drizzles, too.
“Growing up in Medford, I always wished we had a place like this—somewhere the community could truly gather and create those small moments that make a hometown special,” says Gerber, who studied Entrepreneurship & Financial Planning at St. Joseph’s University before returning to his hometown to launch Happy Place Homemade. “Now, seeing the momentum downtown with new businesses and young families moving in, it felt like the right time to bring this vision home. We’re creating the gathering spot I wish existed growing up in the area, and I think Medford is finally ready for it.”
There’s also hot drip coffee and cold brew on tap from La Colombe, with a variety of flavor additions made in-house. Level down the caffeine fix with iced tea or lemonade-based refreshers. Level up by adding a seasonal flavor and swirl of soft serve to create a float-style drink.
The grand opening party and ribbon cutting at 10 am on Friday, January 23 is open to the public. Visitors will get free mini donuts and swag, while supplies last.
Happy Place Homemade is located at 690 Stokes Rd. in Medford. The shop and drive-thru will be open every day (closed on Tuesdays) from 7 am to 9 pm.
