We often think of mini golf and bowling as nostalgic classics—but if your kids have ever called them ‘boring,’ a new luxury entertainment center in Central Jersey is about to change their minds.
The minute you open the doors to the 50,000-square-foot Albatross, you will feel like you’re starring in a Hollywood movie. Brother-and-sister duo Alexis and Tysson Sangermano, who are part of the family that owns Supercharged Entertainment go-karts and arcade next door, along with partner Cody Browning, worked with Greenspan in the UK to design a next-level mini golf course and bowling alley.
The main attraction is two separate mini putting courses, but this is no seaside golf course. Instead, each of the 9 holes on each track (you can sign up to play either course, or all 18) is designed with digital components, full-on cast models and interactive games.
When you start on course one, called the Front 9, The Red Carpet has a purple Lamborghini you can actually sit in! As you walk up a literal red carpet and take your swing, the mural on the wall comes to life as “paparazzi” flash their “cameras” at you – it’s all digital, but it’s all amazing.
You walk right into the next hole, Hollywood, which has its own Walk of Fame with stars dedicated to celebrities of all kinds. As your ball makes its way through this course, you’ll hear any of 100 movie quotes.
The purpose is to get a hole in one, but also to keep up your speed since you get more points the quicker your ball goes. That’s why Hole 3 already brings the competition to your crew: At Roulette, you can place a bet on red or black using the points you accumulated from the first two holes, and select the percentage of points you want to wager. You can win it all – but if you lose it all, you still have 6 holes to get your points back. It’s all about the bragging rights!
Everything is designed to be Instagrammable and interactive. The next two holes, Ride the Wave and Deep Sea Explorer, have a beachy theme with a surfboard you can stand on, and a shark’s mouth you are encouraged to stick your head in. Look above, because the projectors give the effect of actual ocean waves, which you’ll also hear through the speakers. (And for those toting bags: Alexis made sure the drink tables have purse clips so you can hang your clutch while putting).

Coming around the corner, check out Rollerama, which has a roller coaster setup that spins your ball around like an old-fashioned gumball machine.
Then you’ll see yourself on the Jumbotron, which will record you in real-time as you take two “free throw” swings. You’ll feel like a pro athlete as the crowds cheer you on – just one of the many soundbites that enhance each hole.
The High Flyer is constructed from an actual hot air balloon basket, and if you pass your ball through the lighted hole, the lights will change colors to make it seem as if the balloon is ready for takeoff.
The Back 9 has another set of incredible displays that start with your ride on a private jet. You’ll hear the stewardess say you’re ready for takeoff – but you can also sit and hang while your friends get their strokes in.
When you “land,” you’ll find yourself in Paris, with a gigantic Eiffel Tower that sparkles, cafe-like seating where you can have a drink, and Parisian music.
Right across is a trip to New York, where King Kong hangs atop the Empire State Building. You can hit your ball under the tower or into the subway, and then watch as planes fly overhead.
One of the stand-out attractions is The Vault. As you putt through a giant safe, the door will swing open to lead you into the vault. You can choose to steal the cash, gold or money bags from the safe like you’re part of a bank heist. As you break out of the bank, you’ll be able to watch your other friends through the “surveillance” camera.
You won’t be in trouble for long, since this leads into an awesome VIP area called The Underground, which looks like an exclusive DJ club.
When heading past the ropes you’ll come to Shaken Not Stirred, a martini-shaped course that has bubbles you can hit for extra points.
Then, aim for 300,000 points if you hit all the posts in the Alpine Downhill, which has a real ski lift chair you can sit in.
Northern Lights has you walk into a life-sized snowdome, where you have to putt into all three cups.
The real kicker is Hole 9 on each course, which gives you an extra difficult challenge, but rewards you with a free year of golf if you make a hole in one. Hole 9 on the Front 9 is modeled after the Golden Bridge in Vietnam, while Hole 9 on the Back 9 has more of a golf course feel.
That’s not the end of the movie, though. Bring your whole group to the red carpet selfie station, which takes a 180-degree photo of everyone that you can download and email directly to your phone. It’s free, and you can take as many pictures as you want.
Then you’ll be amazed at the 24-lane bowling alley, which definitely isn’t from the ’80s. Instead, the wall-to-wall screens have 20 interactive scenes and 60 screensavers, with the ability to stream live TV. The lanes are designed so that a couple can sit side-by-side on a loveseat on date night, or family can line up straightaway for easier chatting. There are also multiple games you can choose to play via the screen; kids tend to love the monsters.
There’s a hidden Spare Suite that has 8 additional lanes with coaches, swivel chairs and a VIP feel, perfect for events up to 60 people. There’s also a 2,000-square-foot conference room that can hold up to 150 people for corporate teambuilding.
That’s aside from the open-air kitchen and dining room that has a full menu, and one of the prettiest floor-to-ceiling bars around. Take it up a notch when the DJ spins the 1s and 2s on most days.
Albatross is billed as luxury entertainment at regular prices, according to the Sangermanos. And with them both being avid golfers, they chose the name Albatross since that means 3 strokes under par, which they say is “better than a hole in one.”
Albatross is located at 991 Route 1 in Edison, part of Edison Town Square, which also has mega entertainment centers like TopGolf Edison, Supercharged Entertainment New Jersey and iFly indoor skydiving. Albatross opens to the public on June 21.
