When Albatross opened in Edison last June, it made headlines for its two themed mini golf courses that make you feel like you’ve stepped onto a movie set, plus 32 lanes of bowling with gigantic “Neoverse” LED screens.

The concept is now being recognized as the Best New Tenpin Center in the U.S., according to the 41st Annual Bowling Center Architecture and Design Awards, presented by Bowling Center Management (BCM) magazine. The award recognizes “standout innovation, immersive environment, and guest-centric approach to modern bowling entertainment.”

Albatross is owned by brother-and-sister duo Alexis and Tysson Sangermano, whose family also owns Supercharged Entertainment go-karts and arcade next door. With their partner Cody Browning, they worked with Greenspan in the UK as well as QubicaAMF, a leading global provider of bowling equipment and technology, on the Albatross project.

The main section of the bowling alley has 24 lanes, with wall-to-wall screens (called the Neoverse, a high-definition LED wall) that have the ability to stream live TV. There are 20 interactive scenes, 60 screensavers, and multiple games you can choose to play via the screens. The black bowling lanes are designed so that a couple can sit side-by-side on a loveseat on date night, or a family can line up straightaway for easier chatting.

There’s a hidden Spare Suite that has 8 additional lanes with couches, swivel chairs and a VIP feel, perfect for events up to 60 people. There’s also a 2,000-square-foot conference room that can hold up to 150 people.

The other main attraction on site is two separate mini putting courses, with 9 holes on each track, all designed with digital components, full cast models and interactive games. It’s the largest themed indoor putting area in the world. Scenes include Jaws, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a vault that leads to The Underground VIP area and a life-sized snowdome.

There’s also an open-air kitchen and dining room that has a full menu, a pretty floor-to-ceiling bar and a DJ on most days.

Albatross is located at 991 Route 1 in Edison, part of Edison Town Square, which also has mega entertainment centers like TopGolf Edison, Supercharged Entertainment New Jersey and iFly indoor skydiving.
