Things to Do in New Jersey for Pi Day (March 14)

March 14 is Princeton native Albert Einstein’s birthday, also known as Pi Day, which celebrates the mathematical constant 3.14. Flex your math skills at these events taking place in New Jersey, and don’t forget to celebrate with a slice of pie—whether that means pizza or something sweet.

March 12-15

Math Madness / Pi Day Celebration
Liberty Science Center, Jersey City
Over the weekend, kids can test their skills in probability and geometry, solve intricate puzzles, do guided math yoga, build their own robot, and use animals to do math. On Saturday and Sunday, Costumed Characters Elmo and Count Von Count from Sesame Street will be available for photos.

March 14

Museum Visit – Einstein’s Birthday
Updike Farmstead, Princeton
Celebrate Einstein’s 147th birthday with a visit to the Historical Society of Princeton. Learn about the world-famous physicist with an up-close view of his furniture and other personal belongings, including special collections not typically on display to the public. Plus, Einstein himself will be in the museum to answer questions and take pictures. Additional activities provided by the Einstein Museum of Science will include magnetism games, a mini black hole exhibit, and a free compass or Pi Day tattoo for kids.

Forest Resource Education Center, Jackson Twp.
Learn about the connection between nature and mathematics during an easy 1.5-mile woodland walk. The main topic is fractal geometry of winter tree branching. You’ll take tree measurements and make an age estimate of the historic white oak.

Pi Day Party
Mathnasium, Multiple Locations
Mark the day with game booths, Play-Dough “pi” making, wheel prizes, raffles and pizza.

Pi Day Event and Bake Sale
Evesham Twp. Building, Evesham Twp.
There will be a pie eating contest, Pi recitation competition, a photo booth, hands-on projects and games.

March 26

Pi Day Fest
Rutgers Honors College Rodkin Family Courtyard & Druskin Lounge, New Brunswick
There will be a pie eating contest, Pi digit memorization challenge, paint by numbers activity, a Pi Bar with all sorts of pies (gluten-free, vegan and kosher options, too) and Pie a Dean in the Face.
