South Jersey loves the Philadelphia Eagles

The youngest Eagles fans in a couple of South Jersey school districts are getting the official okay to stay up late to watch the Super Bowl. That’s because both of their schools announced a delayed opening the next morning.

Pennsauken Public Schools, in Camden County, will follow a 2-hour delayed opening schedule on February 10. “We feel this allows our students, families, and staff the ability to enjoy the game and still attend school safely the next day,” reads a statement on the district’s website. Burling Alternative School will operate on a normal schedule, but the morning pre-K program and LAM services are canceled.

The Gloucester City school district, also located in Camden County, is following suit from 2023, when their schools opened late following the original matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. “It is a rare and special time for families to watch our local professional football team compete in the Super Bowl,” the district says via Facebook. “We feel that it’s important to give students and staff the opportunity to enjoy the game with their families and still attend school and work the next day safely and well-rested.”

While some parents welcomed the news on social media, others complained a delayed opening is unnecessary, citing parents need to be at work on time. They also said if kids have to be late to school, so be it. How do you feel about the delayed openings? Helpful or disruptive to working parents?
