TIM LEVER / TIM’S PO-BOYS AND WINGS

New Jersey is home to more than 26,000 restaurants, so what makes one stand out over another? Most diners rely on Yelp reviews to decide where to go for a night out. Yelp released its list of the Top 100 U.S. Restaurants for 2025 and three New Jersey spots made the list. This year’s list put an emphasis on good food at fair prices in a comfortable setting.

No. 47, Tim’s Po-Boys and Wings in Hawthorne, brings a Louisiana twist to its sandwiches, chicken wings and Cajun entrees. Sides include fried oysters, pickles, green tomatoes and eggplant. The main event is either gumbo with Cajun-spiced chicken, smoked andouille sausage and vegetables; Jambalaya with pork and smoked andouille sausage with rice; or red beans with rice. Wings can be topped with Carolina, Gouchjang, honey BBQ or garlic teriyaki sauces; or Cajun, lemon pepper or garlic parmesan rubs. Po-Boy options are made with fried shrimp, fried oysters, spicy BBQ pork, BBQ beef, fried chicken, fried green tomatoes or fried eggplant.

No. 62, Fresh Tiki Bar in Somerville, is a dessert destination. Located on Division Street in the downtown area, it’s gotten votes for Best Ice Cream for 6 years in a row, Best Dessert for 4 years in a row, and received the 2024 Official Community Choice Award for Central Jersey. The menu includes artisan ice cream, waffles, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream soda floats, hot cocoa, waffle wands and sundaes. Top items are Italian rainbow cookie ice cream, the GNO Pink Drink served in a pink cowgirl boot mug, freshly baked M&M cookies, Aimee’s Coffee Brownee Artisan Sundae, and heart-shaped waffle ice cream sandwiches.

The restaurant is owned by Dariany Santana and her father Rafael Santana for the past 10 years, and her mom now works at their multi-generational family restaurant built around homemade recipes, too.
