Community Day: Art Extravaganza

We know, we’re all kind of over online calls and have zoom fatigue, but the Newark Museum of Art is presenting a full day of really unique and fun activities for the artists in your life, including classes on how to make art with pancakes, how to make messy edible portraits, how to paint on your clothes and how to do some of those amazing makeup illusion tricks you see all over TikTok. Register in advance for any of their free sessions.
Ort Farms Spring Craft Fair and Flower Sale
Ort Farms, Long Valley
Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm
There are unique local vendors selling handmade items and you can also sample wines from Unionville Vineyards, buy plants for your spring garden, grab snacks from Joe’s Top Dog or go on a horse-dran carriage ride.
Springfest at Tranquility Farms

There’s live music and kids activities to be had at this outdoor event. With beer from Czig Meister Brewery, greenhouses for shopping, food from James on Main and craft vendors to do your shopping. $10/adult, $5/kid. Advance tickets required.
2021 Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival
Skylands Stadium, Augusta
Saturday, noon – 7 pm
The event is on this year, with music, entertainment, outdoor space, 25 food trucks and 100 craft beers to sample. $5/person. Advance tickets suggested.
Family Fun Day: May Flowers
Liberty Hall Museum, Union
Saturday, 11:30 am – 1 pm May 15
This is the perfect time of year to see Liberty Hall’s amazing gardens. You’ll run across staffers who will tell you what it was like at Liberty Hall through the centuries and learn about fabric patterns and Victorian floriography. Tickets $4-10/person. Advance registration required.
Howell Living History Farm, Hopewell Twp.
Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm
Watch the workhorses on the field plowing the field with a 1900-era planter. You and the kids can help shell and grind corn for the pigs and chickens and sample fresh cornbread in the farmhouse.
Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown
Mennen Field, Morris Plains
Saturday, 1-5 pm
This 21+ event is fun if you’re looking for a grown-up afternoon. Restaurants, gourmet food trucks will be on hand with BBQ and Bacon creations and 30 breweries with beers on tap. There are cooking comps, celeb judges and awards for best dish and best beer. $60/general admission.
Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold
Sunday, 11 am – 5 pm
This historic home is open for free admission. Visit historic demos and displays, from loom weaving, basket weaving and blacksmithing. You’ll even see the gristmill in action and try a horse-drawn wagon ride.
Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth
Sunday, 1 -2 pm
Bring your seashell collection to the park and the staff will tell you all about them, how to find the best ones (without harming the environment) and show you some of their favorite finds.
