You know and love Emily Hampshire as Stevie on “Schitt’s Creek” but now she is adding published author to her resume. You’ll have a chance to meet her during a book signing for her debut graphic novel tomorrow, April 13, at the Barnes & Noble location in Brick Twp.
Emily is also known for her characters in “Chapelwaite” and “12 Monkeys,” plus her experience as a writer and producer, but her newest role is for the launch of “Amelia Aierwood – Basic Witch.” The book was inspired by her popular Instagram posts that documented life at home during COVID lockdown. The story follows the least-favorite daughter of L.A.’s most famous family of witches, the Aierwoods. Amelia’s sisters have all followed in the footsteps of their prominent parents but everything Amelia does is just a little off-brand. A late bloomer who has yet to find her calling, Amelia uses her powers for mostly mundane problems but even those lead to magical misfires. As her family’s fame continues to rise, they have no choice but to exclude their bumbling black-sheep daughter from the next great chapter of the Aierwoods – reality TV! With the help of her adopted brother Spaghetti – who she accidentally turned into a yeti – Amelia must carve her own path outside of her family’s influence.
The book was written by Emily Hampshire, Eliot Rahal, Kristen Gudsnuk and Ames Liu, and was released to the public on April 11. In response, Emily posted on Facebook: “I didn’t think it could get better than waking up this morning to find out that our little Amelia broke into the top 10 for Best Sellers in Teen & Young Adult Comics & Graphic Novels … but then to have these words from these people about our little basic witch is… well, MAGIC!.”
Books will be available for purchase at the event at Barnes & Noble, 44 Brick Plaza, Brick Twp. There is no cost for the meet-and-greet, which starts at 6 pm.
Emily is also expected to call into Lou and Shannon on 94.3 FM radio tomorrow morning around 7:30 am.
