New Jersey pizzerias serve it all: thin crust, deep dish, wood-fired, upside down and traditional NY style. One of our faves is ranked again among the best of the best, with its white pie topped with honey from New Jersey bees and hazelnuts grown in East Brunswick by plant biologists at Rutgers University.
Do you know where this is?
Razza Pizza Artigianale, in Jersey City, is among the 22 Best Pizza Places in the United States, according to an unranked list by The New York Times. Dan Richer, who is a Matawan native and studied at Rutgers, makes sure the flour, and milk for the butter and cheese, are all local, and the Hudson County hotspot was named to the list because of its attention to agriculture.
Last year, the Italian website 50 Top Pizza placed Razza at No. 11 on the list of the top pizza places in the world. They credited Razza for its traditional tomato pie with yellow and red tomato sauce with 36-month Parmigiano-Reggiano;Â the Jersey Margherita with crushed tomatoes, Jersey Girl fresh mozzarella and basil; and the corn pie with New Jersey corn, fresh mozzarella, scamorza cheese, shaved onions and fermented chili paste.
Earlier this year, Pizzello.com included Jersey City as No. 122 on its list of the best pizza cities in the country. Razza, no doubt, played a part in that ranking.
