Since 1977, Omega Institute has been a gathering place for world-renowned thought leaders, spiritual teachers, scientists, artists and creative visionaries. Each year, more than 15,000 adults come to Omega seeking lifelong learning and growth, and during Family Week, the campus is open to children and teens. “There’s something special about families stepping into a place that’s been shaped by decades of big ideas, wisdom and curiosity,” says Mary Allen, program developer at Omega.
Located on a 250-acre campus in Rhinebeck, NY, Omega’s wooded paths, open fields and quiet gathering spaces foster a rhythm that invites people to slow down and be present. Family Week has been part of Omega for more than 40 years and is designed for families of all ages.
“Parents can invest in their own growth and restoration while their kids are having an unplugged summer camp experience,” Allen says. “Kids and teens build confidence, friendships and independence, while adults are learning, reflecting and reconnecting with themselves.”
Adults choose one workshop for the week, which may include yoga and mindful movement, pickleball or singing, while kids and teens choose from camp experiences such as sports of all sorts, stop-motion animation stories or the Wayfinder Experience (a role-playing adventure). In the evenings, the whole community comes together to enjoy campfires, musical performances and opportunities to share their talents.
“There’s something about Omega that works magic on people of all ages,” says Elizabeth Lesser, Omega’s co-founder and founder of Family Week. “It gives each of us permission to be ourselves, accept others and create community.”
