Point Pleasant Borough

New Jersey's Best Towns For Families 2017 Ocean County

Population: 18,499
Average Home Price: $400,694

This beautiful Jersey Shore community sits right on the Barnegat Peninsula. A popular boating spot, the borough is just a short bike ride from the beach.

Residents here enjoy the best of both worlds—the perks of shore living without being in the midst of a barrage of summer tourists visiting the neighboring Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach.

The borough’s Riverfront Park boasts a picnic area with grills, a walking pier, bocce court, large playground, open field area and benches on which you can watch the boats go by. The park also hosts a range of fun summer events. The recently revamped Bay Avenue Fishing Pier is a draw for fishing and crabbing. And the school district serves its population well with the blue ribbon award-winning Point Pleasant Borough High School.

As for eating in the Borough, head to Shore Fresh Seafood Market and Restaurant for some delicious underwater treasures, like mussels marinara, crab cakes,  scallops and flounder. Pro-tip? Chow down on the lobster mac and cheese; it comes in a huge skillet, and will last you two (or three!) heavenly meals.

Point Pleasant Beach, which neighbors Point Pleasant Borough, boasts some seriously hot summer fun thanks to its bright, recently rebuilt post-Sandy boardwalk (with an amusement park, arcade games and plenty of greasy eats) and crowded shoreline. It also has a quaint downtown with a main drag that’s dotted with shops and cafés. If you’re looking to chow down on some seafood, try classic spots like The Shrimp Box and Surf Taco. Joe Leone’s Italian Specialties and Catering is known for its amazing sandwiches and endless varieties of cheese.
