The Camden Waterfront Is the Place to Be for Mega XPoNential Music Festival This Weekend

This weekend is the 41st edition of WXPN’s multi-day, outdoor music festival

DYLAN EDDINGER

For more than four decades, music lovers have been flocking to the Camden waterfront for a mega festival featuring headlining and up-and-coming musicians.

XPONENTIAL MUSIC FEST

The 2024 XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru will be held at Wiggins Waterfront Park this weekend. For the 41st time, Philadelphia radio station WXPN will host the annual multi-day, outdoor, family-friendly music festival on the banks of the Delaware River.

GRACE BOWERS

Some of the artists are celebrating their own milestones. Grace Bowers made her debut performance at the legendary Grand Ole Opry on her 18th birthday on July 30, and is nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2024 Americana Music Association Honors & Awards.

ALYSSE GAFKJEN / Guster

Ryan Miller of Guster composed the score for the film Safety Not Guaranteed, and has recently written the music and lyrics for its upcoming stage adaptation at Brooklyn Academy of Music.

JULIA PRATT

Because the 2023 festival was shortened by Tropical Storm Ophelia, Julia Pratt, who was scheduled to perform, will instead make her XPoNential Music Festival debut as WXPN’s Artist To Watch for July.

PAMELA SPRINGSTEEN / Rosanne Cash

Returning to the stage include legendary Americana artist Rosanne Cash, who last plated XPoNential in 2010 and has since been working on music and lyrics for an upcoming Broadway musical adaptation of a film (Norma Rae) with her husband and musical collaborator, John Leventhal.

PETE YORN

Pete Yorn, who first played the XPoNential Music Festival in 2009, had a small acting role in Martin Scorcese’s 2023 film, Killers of the Flower Moon, and WXPN’s Free At Noon featured a performance by Yorn earlier this year.

TRAMPLED BY TURTLES

Dave Simonett of Trampled By Turtles recently sang a duet with My Morning Jacket’s Jim James at The Capital Groove festival in Connecticut. Trampled By Turtles last played the XPoNential Music Festival in 2013.

THE WALKMEN

Other acts include The Walkmen, who reunited in 2023 and played three sold-out nights at Union Transfer in Philadelphia.

BULLY

Two of this year’s festival performers, Bully and Blondshell, teamed up on a new song, “Docket,” earlier this year.

TOBIN VOGGESSER / Greensky

Greensky Bluegrass regularly sells out the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, where the band will play again for two nights the weekend prior to their New Jersey festival appearance.

KHALIL AMARU

The newest addition to the festival’s lineup is Philadelphian Khalil Amaru, who recently won WXPN’s 24-Hour Song Challenge with his song “Dear June.”

XPONENTIAL MUSIC FEST

The 2024 XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru will be held at Wiggins Waterfront Park September 20-22. If you get tickets, bring low-back beach chairs and coolers with food; no alcohol is permitted. There will be free water refill stations throughout the grounds. The children’s area includes face painting and other activities. If you’re a WXPN member, you can get free non-alcoholic beverages and artist meet-and-greets.
