Kids have been pumped about “A Minecraft Movie” that hit theaters on April 4. But a disturbing trend that began via TikTok has caused one theater in North Jersey to ban kids from watching the popular movie alone.
“We want to make all parents aware of an unfortunate situation that occurred at Township Theatre [on April 4] during a showing of The (sic) Minecraft Movie. Large groups of unsupervised boys engaged in completely unacceptable behavior, including vandalism. We also received multiple complaints from other moviegoers who were trying to enjoy the film with their families. Video footage of the incident has been obtained,” reads a post on Facebook by theater officials.
The theater, which is located in Washington Twp., is enforcing a rule that any minors who want to see the movie must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, and groups of teenage boys (without supervision) will not be allowed. The post also suggests talking to your teens about unacceptable behavior.
This started as a TikTok trend where kids go nuts when the word “chicken jockey” is said by Jack Black’s character. The reference is to one of the zombie characters in the video game – which has over 200 million active players worldwide – riding a chicken like a horse. Videos have shown mostly teen boys jumping out of their seats, yelling and throwing popcorn. It’s been reported that some theaters have called the police and even shut down to clean the screening rooms.
