Make Kalahari Your Spring Break ‘Friendcation’ Destination

This popular resort in the Poconos is perfect for a mini vacay with friends.

After nearly two years of not seeing friends and not traveling, our family of four has been ready to get back out there and start having fun again. So when our friends from Brooklyn invited us to meet up with them at Kalahari in the Pocono Mountains we were all in.

It was a no-brainer that our 10-year-old twins would love spending the day in this amazing (and huge!) water park. Our friends’ sons had already been to Kalahari on multiple occasions and were in love with the resort. My son was thrilled to try all the water slides while my daughter could have spent the entire day jumping in the wave pool.

When we arrived, we met for dinner at Double Cut Steak House. The resort has multiple restaurants on the property, so you never have to leave. It was definitely a celebratory meal and we relished not just the food but the chance to all be together again.

The next morning after breakfast at the Marketplace, the kids were ready for some wet and wild fun. Our friends’ sons wore their bathing suits to breakfast and were ready to go. As soon as our kids changed into theirs it was game on.

My son ran off with the boys to exciting rides and slides like Victoria Falls while my daughter checked out the lazy river. Over at the wave pool when the buzzer sounded that the massive waves were about to begin, she jumped up excitedly, ready to dive and jump over the waves.

The adults finally pulled the kids away long enough to get everyone into the hot tub where we swam outside, marveling at the fact that we were in a hot tub in freezing cold weather. It was so much fun.

The other huge attraction for the kids is the Big Game Room Arcade. All four kids had a great time playing games and winning tickets. There was something for everyone to do and at the end of the night, we had to drag them away and back to our rooms.

And while the kids couldn’t get enough of the water park, the best part for the grownups was the extended time we had to catch up and reconnect. That’s the part of travel that we missed the most, and in just a short weekend trip we had so many adventures and made up for lost time apart. If you’re going to go, don’t just bring your own crew — invite another family and make it a “friendcation” to remember!
