It’s a bird, it’s a plane – it’s a hot air balloon! New Jersey has quite a few balloon festivals this summer. Whether you want to take a peek upwards or actually go for a ride, there will be lots do to both on the ground and up in the air at these festivals.
Hot Air Balloons, Arts & Crafts Festival
June 2-4
September 23-24
Warren Community College, Washington
There will be hot air balloons, drone demos, music, entertainment, food trucks vendors and more. Balloons are normally on display in the evenings, prior to the scheduled launch time. A tether balloon will set up around 4:30-5 pm for rides, should weather conditions allow. Take a short trip up and down for a nice view of the festivities from the air. Balloomination is not just a traditional balloon glow, but a glow synchronized to familiar music in the evening.
Lions Flight for Sight Hot Air Balloon Festival
June 16-18
Flying W Airport, Medford
There will be 15 hot air balloons, food trucks, crafters and a kids zone, plus live entertainment and World War II planes on display. Balloon rides will be available to sail above the grounds, or you can take a tethered ride instead.
New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning
July 28-30
Solberg Airport, Whitehouse Station
Specially shaped hot air balloons for the 40th anniversary include a new bright pink 65-foot-tall, 750-pound Lucky Pig from the New Jersey Lottery. Look for an old-time balloon with a sheep, a duck and a rooster (the first-ever hot air balloon passengers), and a pair of 110-foot-tall bumblebees who hold hands and kiss mid-flight. “Star Wars” fans will go crazy for the 86-foot-tall Darth Vader and a 62-foot-tall Yoda. There’s also a new 100-foot-tall penguin balloon for animal lovers. Other attractions include the New Jersey Lottery “Lottery Land” VIP entertainment complex, death-defying stunts by the Fearless Flores Family, children’s amusement rides, interactive exhibits and experiences, and hundreds of vendors and food options.
Warren County Farmer’s Fair
July 29 – August 5
Warren County Fairgrounds, Harmony
The hot air balloon festival is a key part of this fair, which also includes lots of Americana: tractor pull, Ag Olympic Team obstacle course, Kids Corral, demolition derby, rodeo, farm animals and a traditional arts fest.
