Liberty Science Center is known for its IMAX theater, touch tunnel and mini-zoo, but the museum’s Halloween events are pretty awesome, too.

If they've seen night at the museum, it is likely their dream to sleepover at a cool action-filled place like this. And this time it’s extra fun, with a Halloween twist. Kids ages 5 and up are invited to LSC’s Spooky Sleepover, the annual family Halloween camp-in. Take your coven for a night dedicated to the creepy-crawliest holiday there is.

There are special exhibits, like “The Better to Smell You With, My Dear,” where the kids can measure animal skulls, “Zombie Foodie,” where kids learn about anatomy, “The Spider Maze,” where they’ll discover facts about six fascinating arachnids, and Wizard Workshop, where mini-witches and warlocks will learn new potion recipes. Slumber partiers ages 13 and over can visit the Doom Zoo, full of a mad scientist’s abandoned animal experiments.

The overnight is $60 per person ($50 for members). That gets you admission to all regular exhibits, a midnight snack, small breakfast, 3D movie and science demos. Call 201-253-1310 for more information, or email sales@lsc.org.

Want to get in on the fun yourself? Adults age 21 and over are already gearing up for Zombtoberfest on October 19, the craft beer-Halloween hybrid that serves as LSC After Dark’s October installment. These monthly parties featuring music, cocktails and themed science attractions and activities have grown in popularity for a sans-kid outing, but this month’s especially sounds like a can’t-miss.

In addition to sipping some scary tasty local brews, you’ll get to taste spooky snacks courtesy of Midnight Market NJ. This is a cash-only food fest that hosts events around Hudson County for $5 a plate. Once you’ve had your fill, you’ll get to peruse the macabre art, jewelry and more being sold by the Jersey City Oddities Market. Buy something bloody awesome to take home before heading to the terrifying Doom Zoo. Other exhibits like the Infinity Climber will also be open for zombies to explore. Costumes are, of course, encouraged.
