A true earmark of spring is pretty flowers beginning to bloom, and one of our favorite places to wander is Longwood Gardens, which will celebrate Spring Blooms in the coming weeks.
We’re talking 150,000 incredibly beautiful tulips that will line the 600-foot-long Flower Garden Walk by mid-April. There will also be flowering magnolias, cherry trees and dogwoods.
You’ll get to see the newly reopened Idea Garden. The Ornamental Kitchen Garden was redesigned with more accessible pathways, additional seating and new display areas. With full bloom expected during the summer, it will produce 200 fruit and vegetable crops annually.
Inside the Conservatory you’ll see and smell freesias, lilies, jasmine, hydrangeas, pansies and foxgloves.
Don’t miss the Meadow Garden, filled with Carolina silverbells, Eastern redbuds, flowering dogwoods, and sweet azaleas. This is also the spot where you’ll catch views of treehouses, topiaries and the natural woodlands of the area.
If you’re interested in gardening, consider signing up for a class, workshop or lecture to learn about composting, seed science, shrubs for spring, the history of Hidcote Manor Garden in England and a full lesson on tulips. Check the schedule for dates and fees.
Longwood Gardens will present Spring Blooms from March 30 to May 5. The gardens are open every day from 10 am to 6 pm but are closed on Tuesdays. Timed admission tickets are required for members and general admission.

Winter Wonder is currently on view through March 24; after that exhibit closes, tickets and more information for Spring Blooms will be available.
