How to Avoid Poison Ivy

You've heard the "leaves of three" thing, but here's how to identify the poisonous plant even in the winter.

Poison ivy loves summer weather almost as much as your kids do—avoid the telltale red, itchy rash by making sure you can spot it. Look for:

• Clusters of three pointy leaves

• Leaves that are green in the spring and summer, reddish-orange in the fall and look like a furry rope in winter (yes, you can get poison ivy in the winter)

• Leaf clusters where the middle leaf has a longer stem

•  White or translucent berries
