There’s no shortage of holiday lights displays in our area for the season, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is worth the drive as the gardens come alive with holiday spirit during the fourth annual Lightscape display.
This mile-long, after dark illuminated trail is filled with beautiful plants, trees, water features, and architecture of the gardens. When you first enter, you’ll catch an illuminated fountain show at the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden. Then you’ll see returning favorite Winter Reflections by ITHACA, covering the entire Cherry Esplanade with a moving light and music show. Winter Cathedral by Mandylights lets you walk through an immersive tunnel of thousands of lights.
Making its debut this year is Ribbon Tunnel by Culture Creative, a kaleidoscopic installation near Bluebell Wood that presents a multicolored, prismatic light experience. You’ll also stroll past Singularity by Squidsoup, a 26-foot-high sphere with over 6,000 individual points of lights; and Butterfly Effect by Masamichi Shimada & Light Art Collection on Lily Pool Terrace.
There’s also expanded food and drink menus, a seated dining menu of winter specials at Lightscape Lodge at Yellow Magnolia Café, an expanded bar area in the Palm House, and a unique playlist curated specifically for the garden.
On December 10, BBG will host a Lightscape Family Benefit fundraiser for kids and families, where you can snack as you walk along the outdoor trail. There are Value Nights offering discounted tickets, 21+ Nights (December 12 and 19), and Sensory-Friendly Entry (December 18 and January 3) for adults and children with disabilities or sensory sensitivity to come when there is reduced capacity.
Lightscape is open on select dates from November 22 through January 5, 2025. Hours vary. Off-peak tickets range from $18-$36, while peak tickets range from $23-$45.
