March 16 will mark the 50th time the gates of Six Flags Great Adventure will open for the season, and it’s just in time for Spring Break.
There will be lots happening to mark the golden anniversary of the Jackson Twp. theme park. For starters, last year Six Flags announced a new roller coaster called THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity. The 15th coaster at Great Adventure, it will be the first super boomerang coaster to open in North America. That means the trains speed forward and backward at nearly 60 miles per hour through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll! In a “flash,” it changes direction and speeds off again, backwards.
At the safari, an authentic African lodging experience will debut at the new Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa. Book an overnight stay inside the 350-acre safari park, where there will be glamping accommodations, spa services and VIP dining.
If you love the park and want to be a permanent part of it, you can order a Dream Street Pathway Anniversary Brick. Your name and/or a message with a special logo will be engraved, and the bricks will line the pathways leading up to the main gate.
Make sure you head to park favorites like Batman: The Ride, the Carousel, Dare Devil Ride, Great American Road Race, Harley Quinn Crazy Train and Houdini’s Great Escape. The Log Flume and the Big Wheel will be reopened, too. Information on Hurricane Harbor’s opening date will be released soon.
Six Flags Great Adventure is located in Jackson. To open the season, park hours will be 11 am to 6 pm March 16, 17, 23 and 24. The park will be open March 28 to April 7, including Easter Sunday. So far, the calendar shows select dates through May 19, including Monday, April 22.
