Fleet Week is almost here, which means U.S. Navy ships will soon be docked in Manhattan along the Hudson River. The week takes place from May 22-28 and you can take part in the 36th annual salute to our Armed Forces with a host of activities at The Intrepid Museum from May 24–27.
The kickoff on Friday is the museum’s annual free movie night on the flight deck featuring “Top Gun: Maverick.” Bring your own food and picnic on the deck of the ship.
On Saturday and Sunday, come see displays from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, USO, American Red Cross, Guide Dog Foundation/America’s VetDogs, Coca-Cola, Veterans Moving Forward and LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester.
The U.S. Coast Guard Jazz Band and Operation Encore will perform, in addition to the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Silent Drill Team, America’s Sweethearts and Satin Dollz.
Public tours of USCGC Sturgeon Bay, the newest of the United States Coast Guard 140-foot (43 m) Bay-class cutters, will be available. You can also meet former Intrepid crew members.
The events conclude on Monday with the museum’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. Look for a flyover by fighter jets overhead. Some of the displays will still be up, including tours of the Sturgeon Bay.
The Intrepid Museum is located on Pier 86, 46 Street and 12 Avenue, New York, NY. All events on Pier 86 are free and open to the public. The museum requires admission, but retired and active U.S. military and U.S. veterans can get into the museum for free with proper I.D.
