Fleet Week is almost here, which means U.S. Navy ships will soon be docked in Manhattan along the Hudson River. The week takes place from May 21-27 and you can take part in the 36th annual salute to our Armed Forces with a host of activities at The Intrepid Museum from May 23-26.

INTREPID MUSEUM

The kickoff on Friday is the museum’s annual free movie night on the flight deck featuring “Top Gun.” Bring your own food and picnic on the deck of the ship.

From Saturday to Monday, come see displays from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, USO, American Red Cross, and the Guide Dog Foundation/America’s VetDogs.

The U.S. Naval Academy and Naval STEM Coordination Office will present a SeaPerch underwater vehicle demo. Try on emergency response gear, meet the Technical Support team from the Department of Corrections, and learn about the K9 unit. That Planetarium Guy takes you on a journey through the science of the night sky.

Workshops and hands-on activities include making a paper airplane, creating a Morse Code bracelet and discovering artifacts. There will be author talks, performances, meet-and-greets with military personnel and athletic military challenges.

INTREPID MUSEUM

The events conclude on Monday with the museum’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. Look for a flyover by U.S. Navy fighter jets overhead.

The Intrepid Museum is located on Pier 86, 46 Street and 12 Avenue, New York, NY. All events on Pier 86 are free and open to the public. The museum requires admission, but retired and active U.S. military and U.S. veterans can get into the museum for free with proper I.D.
