October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a great time to remind yourself to get screened. There are events taking place throughout NJ to encourage mammograms, support and celebrate survivors and patients going through treatment and honor the memory of those we lost to breast cancer.

Pink Power Brunch Fundraiser

Our favorite NJ celebrity chef has curated a three-course brunch meal that will be served during a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Included with brunch is a complimentary signature pink cocktail sponsored by AIX and Ketel One. The brunch also includes shopping and “pink” experiences, a DJ, a surprise giveaway basket and a special guest speaker. Proceeds benefit the Rippel Breast Center at Morristown Medical Center.

Spark Car Wash will raise money to support the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation. You can purchase a limited edition pink microfiber towel for $5 anytime during the month, and proceeds will go toward providing access to critical breast health services for uninsured and underinsured women in New Jersey.

Vines of Life Walk
Laurita Winery, New Egypt
Walk around the vineyard property to raise money to cure cancer. You can decorate and personalize your T-shirt to say “I’m walking for …” There will be three wine and cheese stations along the path for those 21+; but this is open to all ages. After, there will be live music from Steve Berger. Note: This event was postponed from September 24.

The breast cancer celebration includes a house lighting ceremony. Minister Joan Marshall will speak about wellness and self-care, while Dr. Coral Omene will talk about breast cancer prevention. Sister 2 Sister supports minority and underserved breast cancer survivors.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month Pop-Up Shop Event

Support women, support the fight against breast cancer and support small businesses by shopping local. There will be music, raffles, vendors, and a swag bag for the first 10 people who enter.

Join a 1-mile course, visit the Survivors Zone to celebrate those affected by cancer, and walk through the Memorial Garden. There will be food trucks, children’s activities, a butterfly release, lawn games, vendors, and raffles and auctions.

Legacy Boxing Club, Wayne
Pretty Strong Project supports women and girls who want to box. They are partnering with Legacy Boxing Club for a morning of boxing training followed by sparring. All ages and levels are welcome. There will also be vendors on site.

The pre-Pinktober fundraiser includes a pink-themed picnic in the park, plus guest speakers, a bra decorating kit, light refreshments and a raffle.

Virtua’s Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit

A mobile van will be making its way through South Jersey to provide a faster, easier way for women to get screened. Services include 3D mammography, clinical breast exams, gynecologic exams, Pap tests to detect cervical cancer, colorectal screening options via a take-home stool kit or colonoscopy referrals, and PSA tests for men. Prescriptions are not needed in advance, and services are open to both the insured and unisured.

The fourth annual NJ POUND 4 PINK Vendor event raises money for Mary’s Place by the Sea, which is a respite home for women in NJ. Shop from the vendors on site, and also join a Pound workout class at 12 pm; a live drummer will play along with the music and a DJ to spin the tunes.
