February 9 was a big day for birds in South Jersey. Besides the obvious Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, it was also the birthday of Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and the day Adventure Aquarium‘s newest penguin was born.
Little Saquon, named after the Eagles running back, was hatched to parents Sheila (#8) and Spud (#3), marking the pair’s fifth chick hatched at the aquarium.
He’s only 11 days old, so he’ll stay off-exhibit for now. At about 2 months, he’ll join the rest of his family, where you’ll be able to see him with his colony. By then, his waterproof feathers will be in so he can swim and chill out on land like his adult family members.
Native to the coasts of Australia and New Zealand, little blue penguins are the smallest penguin species, named after their slate-blue feathers.
Adventure Aquarium is located at 1 Riverside Dr., Camden. Daily tickets and memberships are available.
