Frost Valley YMCA is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive camp community where every camper is accepted for who they are. The camp offers one- and two-week programs from late June to August for campers in grades 2-10; and features a traditional overnight camp and teen and pre-teen adventure trips, as well as an array of specialty camps such as an equestrian camp, farm camp and more.
BONDING WITH FRIENDS ON NEW ADVENTURES
Along with museum visits and camping trips, Frost Valley is offering a variety of new adventures for campers this summer, including multi-week trips to Maine and the Adirondacks, and a sailing and paddling trip for teens.
“Our campers can grow in a safe, engaging environment where they develop independence, gain skills as young leaders and bond with new friends on mountain hikes, swimming and boating in Lake Cole, ziplining, and sleeping beneath the starry Catskill sky,” says Callie Radday, executive director of camping services.
Along with its values-driven programming, Frost Valley YMCA offers a unique tiered pricing structure that allows families to pay the price that works best for them, as well as financial assistance so that no child has to miss out.
“The one phrase we hear over and over again is: ‘Frost Valley is my home away from home,’” Radday says. “Campers learn how to step out of their comfort zones, try new things and work together as a cohesive community.”
VALUES-DRIVEN PROGRAMMING AND COMMUNITY ATMOSPHERE
Frost Valley YMCA was founded in 1885 as The Boys’ Camping Society, and after several iterations, held its first camp in 1958 on the former estate of Julius Forstmann. The original 2,200-acre piece of land in the Catskill Mountains has since expanded to 5,500 acres.
Today, the camp offers a traditional overnight experience including waterfront activities, nature and outdoor learning, and art specialties, plus fun and unique camp games and traditions. It’s all driven by eight core values designed to support campers’ social and emotional growth.
“Our camp is best known for its valuesdriven programming and community atmosphere,” says Jen Dresdow, associate director of specialty camping. “We’re always innovating and incorporating new activities into our camp experience to meet the changing needs of kids today— and provide exciting adventures they couldn’t do anywhere else.”
