Read on to see if you’d go with any of these trends when naming your child.
1. Maximalist Names
Opulence, decadence and drama will be attractive to new parents following a shift away from simplicity. Names like Amadeus and Astrophel, Myfanwy and Mazikeen are among the fastest-rising names on Nameberry so far this year.
2. Names So Out They’re In
Nameberry is predicting a resurgence of names that were popular in the 1980s next year. Ferris, Marty and Sloane will be hot choices, as well as “Stranger Things” names and others with a retro feel.
3. Gilded Names
Shimmering, sparkling and golden names — like Goldie — are gaining popularity. Lookout for names inspired by sun deities like Apollo and Helios, names meaning gold or light like Aurelia and Lux and rich regal names like Atarah and Sovereign.
4. Neo-Cowboy Names
Amazon’s new sci-fi Western “Outer Range” pushed its protagonist’s cowboy name, Royal, to the top of the Nameberry charts this year. Other cowboy choices like Brando, Tex and Wilder are sure to gain traction.
5. Traveling Lite Names
These days parents want cross-cultural names that are funky and unique, says Nameberry. Choices like Bibi and Gigi, Rani and Rumi, and Nori and Lili are already hot with celebs, and should be inspiring all parents in 2023.
6. X-tra Names
Names with the letter “X” are trending big on Nameberry! Expect to see options like like Beaux, Calix, Huxley and Onyx for super cool newborns.
7. Adjective Names
You may think names are proper nouns but apparently not so! Names like Moroccan, Golden and Legendary are the new virtue names for 2023.
8. Grandpa Names for Girls
Short and nicknamey, these monikers will suit a sassy baby girl. Look for names like Max, Frankie and Ozzie to be popular among girls.
9. Blue-Green Names
Nature names with a blue-green hue will be top choices for babies next year. Forest, Emerald and Moss are popular as well as brighter blues like Lazuli and Cyan.
10. Mix and Match Names
Creating your own name will be popular among parents. New “it” endings for names may include -aire, -ett, -iel, -lani, -land and -wyn.
