I’m lucky to live in an area with no shortage of restaurants I love, both dine-in and takeout. So when Wonder opened in Midland Park, I was excited to try it but didn’t think it would take me away from my go-to dinner and takeout spots. Turns out it was a mealtime game changer for my family.
I first heard about Wonder during the pandemic, when I would see their trucks in my neighborhood. The idea of a restaurant coming to your door, especially during the height of lockdown, was so exciting back then, particularly because you could order elevated restaurant meals that were prepared in a truck in your driveway.
Fast-forward to 2024, and Wonder is operating with a new business model, investing instead in brick-and-mortar locations with industrial kitchens and chefs trained to make a much larger variety of cuisines from top-tier restaurants. This gives the company the ability to serve up many more types of cuisine under one roof.
Featuring dishes from well-known chefs like Bobby Flay, Jose Andres, Nancy Silverton and more, along with popular restaurants from across the country including Tejas Barbeque and Di Fara Pizza, Wonder makes it easy try a buzzed-about restaurant meal at home. Wonder opened its Midland Park location in late January with 21 (!) restaurant menus to choose from, including Alanza Pizza, Bobby Flay Steak, Burger Baby, Limesalt, Mainstay by Marc Murphy, Wing Trip, Yasas, Royal Greens, Alanza, Barrio Cafe and Chios Taverna.
It’s being called “fast fine” because the meals from well-known chefs are elevated but rather than going to a full-service restaurant to try them, you can get them delivered to your home through the Wonder app.
Steamed dumplings and chicken and broccoli are a weekly go-to with my crew but it does sometimes get old. So when I downloaded the Wonder app and shared the many menus and dinner options available, I was met with enthusiasm from my teens who were excited about the variety. We’ve ordered several times and it’s been a hit with my husband and kids, one of whom tends to be a picky eater.
Here are a few reasons why we love it:
Each member of your crew can order different types of cuisines from one place.
Curating dinner in this new way is fun! After a few orders, everyone in my house has a favorite dish and it’s easy for four family members to order meals from four different restaurants on the app.
I love a hearty salad and for me the Cobb Salad with Green Goddess Dressing and Pita on the side from Royal Greens is a 10 out of 10. My husband loves barbecue (though I am not a fan) so he loves the brisket from Tejas Barbecue. Side note: The Carrot Soufflé here is one of the best desserts we’ve ever tried. (Yes, it’s that good).
My daughter loves the Zesty Chicken Souvlaki & Rice Bowl from Yasas by Michael Symon and my son isa fan of the grilled chicken burrito bowl from Limesalt.
It’s a genius idea for at-home apps.
Trust us: The Spreads Trio (Tzatziki, Hummus and Spicy Pepper & Feta) from Yasas is insanely good and a smart addition to your next at-home app spread. The Guacamole with Chips from Barrio Café is also top tier and the addition of pomegranate seeds to the guac is as pretty as it is delicious.
The app is easy to use and delivery is quick.
Choosing the restaurant and menu items on the app is intuitive. We live less than a mile from the Midland Park location and opted for pickup the first time but found that delivery is pretty quick, too. The app gives you continuous updates on your order throughout, letting you know when it’s being prepared and when it will be ready for pickup or out with a delivery driver so you have an ETA for your meal on the app.
The Wonder locations in Midland Park and Cresskill are the company’s fourth and fifth New Jersey locations. The others are in Westfield, Hoboken and Springfield and the company has a total of 10 locations throughout the tri-state area (three in Manhattan and two in Brooklyn) with plans to expand within the region and into additional states this year.
