New Jersey has no shortage of romantic, upscale restaurants (Open Table just listed the top 5) for Valentine’s Day, but last year, we decided to have dinner in a castle. Think the ultimate comfort food—we’re talking White Castle sliders with onions and pickles and a side of crinkle-cut fries—but elevated.
White Castle restaurants across the country offer a special in-house Valentine’s Day dinner, complete with red tablecloths, flowers and candles, balloons everywhere, and selfie walls. The tradition began in 1991.
Yes, it’s as good as it sounds (because who isn’t craving a classic slider on V-Day?). When you check in for your reservation you’re led to your table by the manager, who serves as maitre d for the night. He’ll light a candle for you and your crew as you review the special menu which has a list of Valentine’s-only combos on one side and love-themed games on the other.
All the White Castle staples are obvs on the menu: sliders with fries, panko fish sandwich with onion rings, chicken rings, clam strips and the new sriracha shrimp nibblers.
If you bring the kids (and you absolutely should), order shareable meals or The Love Clutch Collection, which has all your faves in bulk. So clutch, and served in pretty purple boxes for V-Day, too.
A chocolate-dipped brownie, strawberry cheesecake or gooey butter cake on a stick are on the dessert menu.
Bonus: Their breakfast sandwiches are served all day.
The service was top-notch, thanks to an attentive waitstaff making sure we had all the sauces (and napkins) we needed. There was no time limit for the table but plan for about 30-45 minutes for your sit-down experience. These dinners sell out so reservations turn over quickly.
Want to plan a fancy night out at White Castle this V-Day? Reservations are currently open to book your table. Takeout will be available that night as well.
